No Need to Add to What Jesus Did
Most christians would not tell anyone out loud that they think the way of Jesus was too easy, but that belief becomes apparent in their thoughts and actions. They try to make it more difficult than it really is.
To see if you have any of that belief, search your own heart as you read the way of Jesus below. Ask yourself, “Am I trying to add my own works or failures to the way of Jesus?”
If, at the end of this article, the answer is “Yes”. Then you need to change your belief.
Now let’s dive in and explain what the way of Jesus really is, according to Bible.
The Way of Jesus and the Other Way
Under the covenant of the law, which extends from the time that Adam sinned to the time Jesus died on the Cross, judgement was poured out on all of those who did not obey every rule set down by the law.
Since, according to the Bible, all of us have sinned ( meaning failed to uphold the law ), and the wages of that sin is death. All of us deserved the wrath and judgement of God. That is eternal punishment in Hell.
Grace is not a Teaching, It is a Person
Then came the covenant of Grace. The covenant of Grace extends from the death of Jesus through the end of the world. Grace is not a teaching or a theory, it is the person of Jesus Christ Himself. So the covenant of Grace is really the covenant of Jesus Christ.
As humans, the law covenant makes sense to us. We live under it in our countries, counties, and cities every day. The law covenant is based on our personal works, and we are all self-focused, so this automatically appeals to our pride.
Our self focused natures carry this over to the spiritual. If we disobey the law, we deserve punishment ( judgement ), for that disobedience, but if we uphold or obey the law, then we receive the blessings of God.
The problem is that no one could EVER uphold the law entirely, except Jesus.
Grace IS the Way of Jesus
There is only one thing that is required of us to receive this gift of Grace. We need to accept the fact that we are sinners, and that Jesus, the Son of the One True God, came to earth and died for our sins.
We are Righteous! So Why Try?
Any who do that simple thing inherit the blessings of the Kingdom of God, which are righteousness, and eternal life with Him.
We become righteous because Jesus is righteous, and as long as Jesus remains righteous, which is forever and always, we remain righteous through Him, no matter what we do, or don’t do.
Sorry. There is No Judgement Left for Us!
Unlike the law covenant, our righteousness no longer depends on our works at all. It depends on the works of our stand in, Jesus.
So now, there is no judgement left for us! God has already poured out all of His wrath, and judgement for our sins on His very own Son, Jesus!
What do we need to do then? Nothing but accept the gift! Nothing we do has any more effect on our eternal life or our righteousness.
There is NO judgement left over for us as believers in Jesus!
I feel this may catch in some of your minds, because of what you have been taught about trying to be righteous on your own. Shake it off the questions and listen to this again. Now, here it is again.
No matter what we do from this day forward, or what we have done in the past, or what bad or good things we will do in the future, our judgment has been paid in full, and we automatically inherit the blessings of God! Amen and Amen and Amen!
Grace Goes Against Our Self-Focused Nature
Every time I explain Grace this way, it flies in the face of much that I have heard and understood for many years. That is because the truth about Grace does not compute in our human minds.
This question always comes up. “Since my works don’t matter, why not just sin all the time?”
First of all, I did not say that sin does not matter. It does matter. It just does not affect your place in eternity or your righteousness through Jesus. Those are gifts you receive by accepting Grace.
What sin does carry with it are consequences, which come in many forms, including disease, shorter life, or the lack of joy or peace in your heart. All of this can be devastating to you and others around you.
Nobody wants any of those consequences of sin, but as hard as we try, we keep on sinning. It is time to stop this cycle, and learn how to live life with less sin, and more of the qualities of Jesus using Grace.
How to Stop Sinning
It is time to look away from how much we love Him, and focus our attention on how much Jesus loves us.
If our focus remains on what we need to DO, or how much we need to love God to please Him, and earn our righteousness, our focus is on ourselves. This develops into a habit of selfish behavior, not Jesus like behavior.
This selfish, sinful behavior is what happened under the covenant of the law. Why would we ever want continually try to do what never worked in the first place?
All that system leads to is bondage, guilt, and self-seeking actions. Let’s decide to accept the way of Grace fully and not mix it with the law, because there is more to be had.
I for one, want to not only receive the blessings of God through belief in Jesus, but also receive the joy and peace that comes from the freedom from sin.
Forgiveness Does Not Depend on How Well We Grovel
So how do we do that apart from the law? We focus on Jesus and how much He loves us. It doesn’t sound like enough does it? We still think we need to be more repentant, or ask forgiveness more times or feel guilty more often to defeat sin in our lives.
Forget about all of that. All of those things only lead us to be more focused on our selves and our sin.. Our sin is already forgiven before we even commit it. Let’s just choose to focus on Jesus and see the power of Grace work in our lives.
We Will Automatically Become More Like Him
Let’s choose to look away from our failures. Let’s choose to look away from our good works. Let’s focus on Jesus and His perfect Love for us, and we will automatically begin to become more like Him.
When the focus is entirely on who Jesus is, and not on ourselves, we begin to sin less, we begin to love more, and we will begin to feel the joy of the Lord in our hearts.
This is the way of Jesus. Is it too easy? In a way it is. We don’t deserve it, but God is so righteous and so full of love for us that He gave us Grace ( Jesus ) anyway.
Choose to accept that and focus on Jesus today!
